Titus Welliver’s Crime Drama Season 2 Update Revealed

The new crime drama series featuring Titus Welliver has not yet premiered, but there is already an encouraging update regarding its potential for a second season.

After over ten years portraying Harry Bosch in the original Bosch series and its continuation Bosch: Legacy on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee, Welliver is moving to MGM+ for his next leading role on television. He will play Glenn Keenan in The Westies, which centers on the titular Irish-American criminal gang in New York City during the 1980s. With the first season set to debut later this month, the co-creator and showrunner of The Westies is optimistic about the prospects for a second season.

In an interview with Deadline, Chris Brancato, who developed the MGM+ series alongside executive producer Michael Panes, expressed that while he’s not “at liberty to discuss what is coming up next,” he feels “very confident there will be a second season of The Westies.” This confidence stems from broader discussions he has had with Michael Wright, MGM+’s Global Head, about “cooking up a few additional shows for the future.” He further characterized Wright as “an amazing ally who always knows when to step in and share his insights about a series.”

The Westies marks Brancato and Panes’ third series for MGM+, following Godfather of Harlem, which is concluding with a two-hour finale, and Hotel Cocaine. Brancato is also recognized as the creator of Netflix’s acclaimed series Narcos and its companion show Narcos: Mexico. Given Brancato and Panes’ strong track record at MGM+ and the early positive reception for The Westies, it appears that the show is poised for a promising future, although this is not entirely assured at this point.

This series revolves around two childhood friends who choose different life paths, one becoming a police officer while the other joins the Westies gang. Reflecting real-life dynamics, Brancato and Panes’ show will illustrate how the gang interacts with Italian crime families throughout the penultimate decade of the 20th century. Welliver’s co-stars in The Westies include J.K. Simmons, Tom Brittney, Stanley Morgan, Sarah Bolger, Allen Leech, Hamish Allan-Headly, Vincent Walsh, and Hilary McCormack.

Alongside concluding his role as Harry Bosch in last year’s final season of Bosch: Legacy, Welliver has made recent appearances on shows like Titans, where he portrayed Superman’s adversary Lex Luthor, as well as on The Equalizer, Ballard, and Dark Winds. In film, he appeared in 2025’s Ricky and Abraham’s Boys, while also lending his voice to characters such as Carmine Falcone and Rorschach in the two-part DC animated films Batman: The Long Halloween and Watchmen, respectively.

The Westies is set to premiere on Sunday, July 12 on MGM+. Other forthcoming shows on the platform include adaptations of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, Legacy of Spies, and a remake of The Magnificent Seven. Welliver’s upcoming projects also feature him as a series regular in season 4 of The Night Agent, alongside Al Pacino and Diego Boneta in Killing Castro, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 9.
