Some bands might have followed up their acclaimed debut by crafting a slickly produced album capitalizing on newfound fame. However, Pearl Jam took a different route.
The band’s sophomore effort, Vs., is a raw and unrefined alt-rock masterpiece that remains solid throughout. While TEN ‘s hits may be larger, Vs.‘s cohesiveness makes it stand out in Pearl Jam’s discography.

“Electioneering” may not be as sonically dense but compensates with lyrics addressing political issues.
While Radiohead would continue to experiment post-OK Computer , this album represents their most successful endeavor.

The release initially appeared overly ambitious. Following their breakthrough album,Siamese Dream , the Smashing Pumpkins aimed for a double album from inception.
This decision proved fruitful as they earned seven Grammy nominations in 1997—an unsurprising outcome given their memorable tracks spanning themes from rats in cages (“Bullet With Butterfly Wings”) to their beloved home city (“Tonight, Tonight”).

The fast-paced “Fell in Love With a Girl” bursts forth while “We’re Going to Be Friends” showcases Jack White’s softer side as he tones down his guitar fuzz momentarily. Intense yet sweet at times,White Blood Cells stands out as The White Stripes’ most cohesive work and arguably Jack White’s finest output.
