It was a close battle for number one at the box office this weekend, with many saying it was too close to call. While WB earlier claimed victory for its DC film Clayface, most box office pundits are calling the weekend for A24’s You Can See Everything, which grossed $10.6 million compared to Clayface’s $10.4 million. One can see why WB wanted to claim the top spot, as it’s probably not the best look for a DC film to be beaten by a three-hour documentary in its third week of release. But You Can See Everything has truly captured the zeitgeist, with Nathan Fielder’s take on Elizabeth Holmes a point of conversation for moviegoers everywhere. Its domestic total is now a hefty $63 million, which is great for a documentary. We predicted it would top the box office earlier this week.
Clayface Suffers a Bigger-Than-Expected Drop
Meanwhile, Clayface is standing at $44 million domestically after falling by a worse-than-expected 57% in week two, with no real help from Halloween. Overseas, it made $12.4 million, bringing its worldwide total to $83 million. It will easily top $100 million worldwide, so it should turn a decent profit, as the budget was relatively low, with many putting it at $44 million, although that doesn’t include marketing.
Wildwood Struggles While Wicker Holds Strong
A much bigger-budget film, Travis Knight’s Wildwood, from Laika, continued to struggle to find an audience despite rave reviews. It made $7.5 million, a 39% drop from last weekend, with a grand total of $25.9 million. Last weekend’s adult sleeper, Wicker, had a better hold than any other movie in the top five, only falling 28% to $4.13 million, with a strong $13.26 million domestic total. Paramount’s Street Fighter had another rough round, only grossing $3.2 million after another bad 67% drop. It’s only made $53 million domestically. Worldwide it’s at $91 million, with a $100 million finish likely.
Resident Evil Gets a Halloween Boost
Halloween gave a couple of horror movies decent holds. Resident Evil only dropped 13% to make $2.525 million for a terrific $157 million domestic total. Overseas, it’s an even bigger hit, having crossed the $400 million global mark, with a $500 million finish possible. Blumhouse’s Other Mommy has next, with it making $2.5 million for a $55.6 million total, while worldwide it’s crossed $107 million.

The Only Living Pickpocket in New York Finds an Arthouse Audience
Sony Pictures Classics also had a nice arthouse hit with the terrific John Turturro-led crime flick The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, which expanded its theater count and came in at just under $2 million. Number nine went to the Brad Pitt-led Heart of the Beast, which made another $1.62 million for a decent $65 million domestic total. But overseas, it’s been a blockbuster, bringing its worldwide total to $181 million as it closes in on the double-century mark. The top 10 was rounded out by Sense and Sensibility, with $1.4 million in domestic gross for a $16.7 million total. It’s made $37.2 million worldwide.
