The Best Sci-Fi Franchise of All Time Is Set for a New Release

The T-800 is one of the most iconic heroes, and villains, in the history of cinema. That slow, methodical walk, the sinister accent (okay, so that’s just Arnold Schwarzenegger), the lethal and clinical way enemies are dealt with, and that magnificent exoskeleton underneath. We love the Terminator, and any time we get news of another release, it fills us with joy.

Now, it’s not like movie collectors have ever been short in the way of Terminator merchandise to deal with, but this one comes with a little more cinematic pedigree than the average shelf ornament. A team based at Pinewood Studios is using the same materials, techniques and craftsmanship found on major film productions has gotten together and actually recreated part of the actual Terminator. Makinarium has announced the T-800 Optics as the first release under its new Makinarium Studio Edition collectibles range.

Officially licensed from The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the highly limited piece has been created to celebrate the latter film’s 35th anniversary and pre-orders are available now, with the first units expected to begin shipping shortly.

TEST YOUR SURVIVAL →

01

You sense something is deeply wrong with the world around you. What do you do?
The first instinct is often the truest one.

APull on every thread until I understand the system — then figure out how to break it.
BStop asking questions and start stockpiling — food, fuel, weapons. Questions don’t keep you alive.
CKeep my head down, observe carefully, and trust no one until I know who’s pulling the strings.
DStudy the patterns. Every system has a rhythm — learn it, and you learn how to survive it.
EFind the people fighting back and join them. You can’t fix a broken galaxy alone.

02

In a world of scarcity, what resource do you guard most fiercely?
What we protect reveals what we believe survival actually requires.

A Knowledge. If you understand the system, you don’t need resources — you can generate them.

B Fuel. Everything else — movement, power, escape — runs on it.

C Trust. In a world of fakes and informants, a truly reliable ally is rarer than any commodity.

D Water. And after water, information — the two things empires are truly built on.

E Ships and credits. The galaxy is big — you survive it by being able to move through it freely.

The T800 Collectible Is Being Made at Pinewood Studios

The T800 Optics recreates the Terminator’s iconic eyes and comes with a specially designed display cradle, premium packaging and an owner-authentication display, which means only the owner can use it. Each piece is engineered and hand-made by experienced film-industry prop makers, with releases produced in small, serialised quantities. Makinarium describes the range as being made “for collectors by film-makers,” with the company drawing on more than 100 years of combined industry experience.

The collectible also contains a special encrypted NFC chip powered by FanConnect, meaning owners can tap it with their phone and get access to a dedicated digital portal tied to their individual piece, and that portal includes a digital certificate of ownership, authentication information and the collectible’s unique serial number.

Based at Pinewood Studios and operating as part of the Victory Films group, Makinarium has worked across props, costumes, sets, visual effects and fabrication for franchises including Star Wars, Jurassic World, James Bond, Ghostbusters, Mission: Impossible, Wonka, and multiple Marvel productions.

The T800 Optics is available to pre-order now through Makinarium Studio Edition.
