July was certainly a rewarding month for fans of HBO’s acclaimed Game of Thrones franchise. Alongside new episodes of the highly anticipated House of the Dragon Season 3, the legendary fantasy universe also received several tie-in releases. One of them brought back one of its most overlooked characters: Jorah Mormont, the exiled knight and only son of the honorable Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, Jeor Mormont.
Portrayed by Iain Glen, Jorah survived until the final season of Game of Thrones but was killed before the series finale after being mortally wounded while defending Daenerys Targaryen during the Battle of Winterfell. Seven years later, the character returned in Kingsroad, the latest season of Zynga‘s Game of Thrones: Legends RPG, as part of a multi-week seasonal reward event. Now, the franchise is reviving another underexplored part of its mythology; this time shifting the focus from a character to one of the saga’s greatest mysteries.
R’hllor, better known as the Lord of Light, is the latest piece of Game of Thrones lore to return to the spotlight. The prominent god worshipped across much of Essos has only a small following in Westeros, where his influence has been seen through followers such as Melisandre and Thoros of Myr. Although he has largely remained one of the franchise’s greatest mysteries, the official <em>Game of Thrones: Conquest </em>website confirms that fans will have the chance to explore the Lord of Light’s mythology in greater depth with the launch of the Game of Thrones: Lord of Light event on August 7, 2026.
