As of today, Mikkelsen’s Another Round is now available to stream on Netflix. In this 2020 film, Mikkelsen portrays a high school history teacher who participates in an alcohol experiment with friends to tackle their midlife crises. The ensemble cast features Thomas Bo Larsen, Lars Ranthe, Magnus Millang, Maria Bonnevie, Susse Wold, and others. Since its release, it has garnered positive reviews from critics and currently boasts a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“The film follows four friends, all teachers at different points in middle age, who find themselves in a rut,” the synopsis states. “Struggling to express their passions at work or home, they embark on a bold experiment inspired by an obscure philosopher: to determine if maintaining a constant level of alcohol in their blood can lead to greater freedom and happiness. Initially, they each discover a renewed enthusiasm, but as they push their experiment further, long-buried issues surface, forcing the men to choose between confronting their behavior or continuing down the same path.”

Another Round was directed by Danish filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg, who co-wrote the screenplay with Tobias Lindholm. During his heartfelt speech at the 2021 Oscars, Vinterberg dedicated the film’s award to his late daughter, who tragically passed away in a car accident shortly after filming began. The movie was produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen and Kasper Dissing.
