The conversation around Grand Theft Auto VI is really starting to heat up right now, with that game closer to release than ever before. As such, it can be easy to forget that Rockstar has another major franchise under its belt and there’s still plenty of fun to be had with it, even though they haven’t released a new game in the Red Dead Redemption series since 2018.
Specifically, if you’re happy to jump into the online modes the game offers, the developer has been very good about bringing out new events for players to enjoy, the latest of which is drawing to a close very soon on May 4. That means this is your last opportunity to grab some genuinely nice freebies for your character, so here’s everything you need to know to get it done.
Over on Twitter/X, Rockstar Games shared an update confirming some fishing-related goodies for players, all free of charge.
“Claim a free Fishing Rod in Red Dead Online this week and sell what you catch to the Butcher for 5X RDO$. The Fishing Challenge Free Roam Event is also rewarding competitive anglers with 5X RDO$ and XP through May 4,” the post reads.
The fun is far from stopping there though, with plenty more free items and enhanced rewards for players who log in and play the game. Though some are now unattainable given our proximity to the end of the event, you can still grab 3X RDO$, Gold, and XP on Call to Arms, as well as 3X RDO$, XP, and Role XP on all Trader Sales.
At the same time, completing five Trader Sales rewards players with the Fortune Buckle and finishing all of your Trader Daily Challenges grants access to the Tennessee Walker Camp Flag. Though it’s a little late to get started on the process now, if you’re partway there, you can also get the Burdall Hat for reaching Rank 20 as a trader.
The Danube and Tasman Outfits, Charro Jacket, Chambliss Corset, and Fernwater Coat are also all available in the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Catalogue, and it’s your final chance to participate in the Hardcore Saint Denis Series, which draws to a close at the same time as the event.
Red Dead Redemption 3 is still a very long way away, if we ever get it at all, but the second game is still a wonderful canvas for Rockstar to put new experiences in. Combine that with the sterling efforts of modders around the world, and it should give us plenty more fun for years to come.
