2026 is quietly becoming the year of Anya Taylor-Joy, who is currently dominating Apple TV with her new crime thriller series, Lucky. Timothy Olyphant co-stars alongside Taylor-Joy in the show, which was written and created for TV by Jonathan Tropper, who also wrote Your Friends & Neighbors (starring Jon Hamm). Taylor-Joy will also reprise her role as Alia Atreides in Dune: Part Three, which opens in theaters later this year on December 18, the same day as Avengers: Doomsday. She featured in one scene in Dune: Part Two back in 2024, but the massive time jump between Part Two and Part Three allows her to have a much larger role in the sci-fi trilogy-capper. Her crime thriller with Chris Evans, <em>Sacrifice</em>, debuted last year, but after earning poor reviews from critics, it’s still yet to acquire distribution.
Even before she stars in Dune: Part Three, which could easily cross $1 billion at the box office, Anya Taylor-Joy is already one of the highest-grossing movie stars of 2026. Taylor-Joy reprised her role as Princess Peach in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, alongside Chris Pratt, who returned as Mario from the 2023 original film. After The Super Mario Bros. Movie grossed over $1.3 billion at the global box office, it’s fair to say that expectations were sky-high for the sequel, and it delivered, albeit not at the same level as its predecessor. After becoming the first film of 2026 to reach $1 billion at the global box office, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is finally set to begin streaming on Peacock this week on July 30.
